| About meditation |
The Path is also meditation. To meditate is to unite, to come together, the opposite of disunity, in other words, to disperse. We have endless opportunities to disperse every day, but is it serious? See for yourself. There is no dogma about it.
If you were to ask my opinion, I would say that it is better to be able to meet at will. I would also say that disunity, to disperse it causes confusion and confusion leads to suffering.
«Dhyàna-heyàs tad-vrttayah. Deep meditation is the way to avoid suffering» (Yogasûtra 2:11)
“Renounce anger, renounce pride, free yourself from attachment. He who is detached, who gives neither to passion nor to desires cannot be affected by suffering” (Buddha, Dhammapada 221).
There are many ways to meditate. For some meditation is a deep intellectual reflection, for others it is something else. Meditation, as it is understood on The Path, serves to reset oneself to find that pole of stability that is in itself in order to take a step back from the confusion of the mind.
I’ve heard that “Meditation begins where thought ends”. But thought never ends. What we can do is not to focus on it, to ignore it until it seems to no longer exist. It still exists, but we no longer perceive it.
This is for deep meditations, but not all meditations are. It is necessary to gather such a quantity of factors favoring to have deep meditations! Be healthy, rested, in a healthy and silent environment, etc. It is also required to have a good inner posture, made of simplicity, humility, thirst, letting go, etc.
Meditation is not just deep meditation. There is the concentration phase of the beginning, when we work to stay totally still, focus on the meditation technique and go back and forth between the focus and the thoughts… This phase is called Dhàrana, in the Yogasûtra.
This phase is imperfect, but it is still meditating. It is better a bad meditation than no meditation at all! In any case, Dhàrana is part of the «samyama», which is the whole meditation.
First step; Dhàrana, then comes Dyàna, the attention continues, then the first of the seven samadhi, which is the consciousness of his true identity.
The Deep Consciousness
What many meditators seek is the deepening of their consciousness. We must no longer be disturbed by thoughts, sensations if we want to plunge into the deep consciousness, so… how to do? It is a matter of putting his attention elsewhere than in his thoughts.
Some yogis or devotees use external supports such as mantras, prayer, mandalas, candle light, a relaxing audio file, etc.
It must be said that most often what is called meditation is, in fact, sophrology, but well, as long as it is good for them! The purpose of meditation, according to The Path, is to let emerge the bliss that is in itself.
The Revelation of meditation techniques and the daily practice of the pillars, make it possible to achieve this by giving interior supports to meditation. It is not about mantras or body postures, not even about prànàyàma as it is taught in general.
I cannot tell you more, because the techniques do not reveal themselves lightly, this so that they are not practiced in a wrong way, which could cause more confusion than anything else. That is why they are shown, explained orally.
Thought is not an enemy, but it must remain under the control of its user, the soul. I say soul to simplify. There is also the issue of identification: believing or not believing that you are what you think. You are not your thoughts or feelings.
You Are the Spirit Or Soul-Incarnate
You are the spirit or soul-incarnate. Obviously those who do not believe in it will not understand this notion. They believe only in their brain, but the brain understands only what is in its plan, that of phenomena, intellectual knowledge and logic.
This is why quantum physics is difficult to understand, even for physicists. The most committed to this science come to God. Without him, nothing can be explained at the end of the explanations.
The supreme mathematician, inventor of the original equation, primordial which governs all is God, even if this word displeases you. You can say Dao, instead, if you like or L'Un, it won’t change anything.
The Path is not only made of sitting meditation, it is also made of meditation in action and other things. The Path can thus allow you, if you wish, to keep control of your mind from rising to bed and, thus, to deepen your consciousness. Living in full consciousness is not improvised!
“Visayavati và pravrttir utpannà manasaï sthiti-nibandhanï. Continuing this meditation in action helps to remain at peace.” (Yogasûtra, 1:35)
